Q: I bought one of your BreatheFree Scoopers and I really love how it eliminates most of the horrible dust that I used to get when I used one of my regular litter scoopers. But when I try to scoop the clumps up with the BreatheFree, some of the clumps fall off on either side of the white panel, back into the box. Also, some of the clean litter sits on top of that white area and if I’m not careful it will fall off the scooper and sometimes spills on to the floor. What a mess! Am I doing something wrong?
A: YES YOU ARE. Scooping with the BreatheFree™ Litter Box Scooper is totally different than scooping with other scoopers. The most important thing to remember is that when you scoop up the clumps with the BreatheFree Scooper, tilt the scooper back far enough so that the front edge of the solid white scraping panel on the front of the scooper is pointing up toward the ceiling. If you do that, the clumps will quickly fall back under the hood and all of the reusable litter will flow quickly back into the box through the D-shaped opening at the back. The clumps will not fall off and there will be no more mess.
Q: My cats produce large clumps and some of them won’t fit under the hood. Do I need to break up the large clumps before I scoop them up?
A: No. Even if the large clumps are so big that they won’t fall back under the hood, that’s OK. They can just rest against the front edge of the hood. Just scoop, tilt the BreatheFree™ Scooper so that the front edge of the solid white scraping panel on the front of the scooper is pointing up toward the ceiling. Then dump out the large clump that is resting against the front of the hood and continue. It’s that easy!
Q: I use scoopable litter made from Pine. Will the Breathefree Scooper work with this type of litter?
A: We recommend using the BreatheFree™ Scooper only with traditional scoopable litter. Some of the other types of scoopable litter (pine, wheat, corn) do not form tight, solid clumps, which would reduce the effectiveness of the BreatheFree Scooper’s ability to separate the solid clumps from the clean reusable litter.
Q: Can I clean the BreatheFree Scooper if it gets dirty from litter sticking to it.
A: Yes, the Litter Sifting Panel is removable for more thorough cleaning, but the scooper is easily cleaned even without removing the panel by placing the scooper it in a bucket with soapy water or just by running warm water over it.
Q: Can I use the Breathe Free Scooper with all brands of scoopable litter?
A: Yes, any brand of scoopable litter will work well with the BreatheFree™.
Q: Are there any removable parts on the BreatheFree Scooper?
A: Only the Litter Sifting Panel is removable. The see-through hood is attached and should not be removed.
Q: I’m pregnant. Is it OK for me to scoop litter with the BreatheFree Scooper?
A: No, pregnant women should never clean ANY cat litter due to the risk of Toxoplasmosis. The type of scooper used does not matter. Speak to your physician about this.
Q: The instructions say that shaking the scooper is not necessary. Can I still shake it as the litter travels down the solid bottom floor of the scooper?
A: You CAN shake it, but there is no advantage to doing so since tilting the scooper back allows the clean litter to exit back into the box very quickly, without shaking.
Q: Can I scoop more than one urine clump of litter at a time?
A: Yes. As many clumps as you can get onto the Litter Sifting Panel at once will lessen the time it takes to clean the box thoroughly.
Q: Can I get litter out of the corners of the litter box with the BreatheFree Scooper?
A: Yes, due to the ninety degree angle on each end of the front scraping blade, scooping out of the corners of the box works very well.
Q: Will the handle of this scooper break as so many low cost scoopers often do?
A: NO…. The BreatheFree™ Scooper is made of engineering plastic (ABS) and the handle is designed to withstand heavy duty use.
Q: I’ve never heard of “Veterinarian’s Choice” before. Are you a new company?
A: We formed Veterinarian’s Choice in 2006 and have been devoting all of our time to perfecting the BreatheFree™ Scooper. We are committed to the well-being of cats and dogs and we are constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of life of pets of all kinds. Our veterinarian, Dr.Mark Rutman, works very closely with the Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village, a humane shelter which cares for homeless cats and dogs. As a company, we donate a portion of our profits, up to $100,000.00, to support Rescue Village.
Q: One of my cats is very large (20 pounds!) and his urine clumps are also very large. When I tilt the BreatheFree Scooper back, some of the clumps are too large to fit under the dome. Do I have to break the clumps up before I scoop?
A: No. It is not necessary that all the clumps slide in under the dome when you tilt the scooper back. If the clumps settle on the area between the front of the dome and the end of the scooper, simply tilt the scooper down and allow those clumps as well as the clumps under the dome to slide down into your waste receptacle.
